MARTIN FAGAN will go to the line among the favourites for tomorrow’s senior men’s race at the European cross-country championships in Brussels but the Mullingar Harrier knows it will be difficult to improve on last year’s seventh placing in Toro.

STEPHEN SCULLION (Wellington College) and Sarah Treacy (King’s Hospital), the newly crowned national junior cross-country champions, bid for more success in the Kit Kat All-Ireland Schools Championships at St Clare’s Sports Ground, DCU, this afternoon.

VINNY MULVEY (Raheny Shamrock) made the 100-metre trip from his apartment to claim the National inter-club cross-country championship title in spectacular fashion at Santry Demesne on Saturday from young Mark Christie (Mullingar Harriers) and his flatmate, Killian Lonergan.

AMY FOSTER, silver medallist at the European Youth Olympics a few weeks ago, revelled in the sunshine at Tullamore on Saturday when she won a gold medal in the 100m, took silver in the 200m before anchoring the Irish schools to silver in the 4x100m relay at the international track and field match between Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.

AMY FOSTER (Glenlola Collegiate School), silver medallist in the 100m at the European Youth Olympics last week, will be back in action at Tullamore on Saturday and hoping for a double in the Schools International between Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.

BRENDAN O’NEILL (St. Michael’s, Dublin), Mairead Murphy (Mercy, Waterford) and Laura Reynolds (Marian, Mohill) all set new records at the KitKat Tailteann Irish Schools interpros at Tullamore on Saturday when a number of athletes bound for the European Youth Olympic Festival got the perfect send-off.
