A British student whose “joke” that she was carrying bombs on to a transatlantic flight landed her in a United States jail said tonight she hoped to return home soon.

Virgin chairman Richard Branson today offered to step in to help British student Samantha Marson, who found herself facing jail after joking that she was taking a bomb on to a plane in America.
