VENEZUELAN President Hugo Chavez this weekend threatened opposition governors with jail if they refuse to give up their posts after elections they claim could be hit by fraud.

A week before a recall referendum on President Hugo Chavez’s rule, supporters and opponents of the Venezuelan leader held massive events in Caracas, each side confident of victory in the emotionally-charged election.

FORTY-SEVEN people were killed and 12 injured after a fire in a Caracas nightclub which had no emergency exits.
