AFTER the inevitable highs and lows of the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships first set of medals were decided on Sunday, yesterday it was back down to the business of the qualification series.

PETER O’LEARY’S hopes reaching the medal race final at Weymouth were ended yesterday when he and David Burrows finished the Star class series in 12th overall after a disappointing day. Annalise Murphy won her penultimate race in the Laser Radial and begins the medal race in third overall this morning.

IRISH boats were on a high last night in Weymouth following the third day of racing at the London 2012 Olympic sailing venue.

IT IS now up to Cork’s Peter O’Leary and Stephen Milne to rescue Ireland’s chances of a memorable result from this Olympic regatta, but the Star class pair have some work on their hands in a white hot fleet after sailing to two 13th places, their worst scores so far, yesterday.

AFTER a demanding day on the waters of Qingdao’s Fushan Bay yesterday in the most wind they had sailed in since they dropped their mast disastrously during the Star Worlds, Peter O’Leary and Stephen Milne lie in 11th place overall in the Star class.
