The shortlist for the world's richest literary prize has been announced - with three British and one Irish authors making the grade.

FOR his latest novel, In Zodiac Light, Robert Edric frames the post-war life of Britain’s lesser known war poet and composer Ivor Gurney.

Author Howard Jacobson was today picked out as an early favourite to win this year’s Booker Prize.
