The State’s equality watchdog has said a landmark EU court ruling regarding Islamic headscarves did not mean blanket bans by employers on wearing religious signs were lawful.

Civil rights advocates said the headscarf ban ruling by the European Court of Justice did not appear to “place weight on the importance of freedom of religion”.

There will be an opportunity for people to try on a hijab and to chat with local Muslim women at Waterford Institute of Technology next month.
