The people of Union Hall and the rescue services have been presented with a Cork Person of the Month award in recognition of their heroic and inspirational efforts in the wake of the Tit Bonhomme trawler tragedy.

A village that held fast to the spirit of its seafaring traditions welcomed President Michael D Higgins yesterday to commemorate the crew of the Tit Bonhomme.

President Michael D Higgins is to visit Union Hall next month to meet with the families of the five trawler men who died when the Tit Bonhomme sank in mid-January.

For one family, the mourning can finally begin. For another, the agonising wait continues.

EGYPTIANS and Irish stood together in sorrow on the quays at Union Hall in West Cork yesterday as the bodies of two missing men were brought ashore.
