One of the biggest personnel shake-ups for years has taken place in the ranks of An Garda Siochána with six officers being promoted to the rank of chief superintendent and a further 34 inspectors elevated to superintendent.

A 26-year-old man from the Ballina area has been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of two elderly brothers at their home in Castlebar on Wednesday.

A TOTAL of 22 Garda inspectors, including three women, have been promoted to the rank of superintendent and assigned to new stations.
