PRINCIPALS want Easter holidays extended by a week for students to take oral and practical exams but they remain opposed to Leaving Cert exams on a Saturday in May, a conference heard yesterday.

SECOND-LEVEL schools fear they will be unable to meet their legal obligations to students with special needs unless proper resources are provided by the Department of Education, principals said yesterday.

QUALITY education is in danger of becoming a consumer commodity instead of a public right, the head of the body reviewing the Leaving Certificate warned yesterday.
