A man who accepted €25 to give a lift to five people who mistakenly thought he was a taxi driver could face a fine of up to €5,000.

A man has been sent forward for trial, on a plea of guilty, for trying to escape garda custody in a courthouse, and on a charge of assault, relating to the same incident.

A young hero who saved a woman from drowning, a compassionate teenager who had endured much in recent years, and two brothers who have battled against the odds with their health, are among those honoured in the West Cork Garda Youth Awards.

Gardaí in West Cork are looking for people to nominate outstanding youngsters who are a credit to their communities so they can highlight their achievements at an annual awards ceremony.
