An Irishman who was among 100 finalists for the Mars One mission has been kicked off the project after labelling it “hopelessly flawed”.

An Irish shortlisted candidate for a one-way ticket to Mars has spoken out against the Mars One mission, fearing its actions could damage the future of science.

A Trinity College scientist has made the shortlist of just 100 people being considered for a one-way trip to Mars.

More than 1,000 candidates from 200,000 hopefuls have been chosen to train for a private Mars colonisation mission to be partly funded by a reality-TV show following their training and subsequent steps, organisers have said.
