Flooding killed at least 11 people in Vietnam’s southern and central regions, submerged thousands of homes in its largest city and stranded air and railway passengers, officials said today.

Vietnam braced for Typhoon Cimaron and planned mass evacuations after the storm slammed the northern Philippines, leaving at least 15 people dead in landslides and flooding, state media reported today.

Vietnam began evacuating more than 180,000 people from its central coast as powerful Typhoon Xangsane approached from the Philippines, where it left at least 63 people dead and about 70 missing, officials said today.
