AN IRANIAN prosecutor has called for “maximum punishment” of a senior reformer for acting against national security, a crime punishable by death.

Opposition political activists and protesters stood trial in Tehran today on charges of rioting and conspiring against the ruling system in the country’s first trial following the disputed presidential election, it was reported.
