By ruling against the medical council’s findings, Mr Justice Kelly has cast a harsh spotlight on their disciplinary practices, writes Conor Ryan.

A PRESS release from the Medical Council which stated that two consultant obstetricians had been found guilty of professional misconduct over reports opposing the immediate suspension of obstetrician Dr Micheal Neary, but failed to say the council had decided to impose no sanction against the doctors seemed to be “spin of the worst type”, a High Court judge has said.

THE Medical Council acted unfairly and unlawfully in finding that two consultant obstetricians were guilty of professional misconduct over reports exonerating the obstetric practice of Dr Micheal Neary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, the High Court was told yesterday.

NOT evil, not incompetent, but deeply flawed and working in an environment where faults went uninvestigated and uncorrected.
