A €10m scheme aimed at bringing an end to the discharge of untreated wastewater into a prominent bay in West Cork is under way.

A residents’ group in the east Cork harbour village of Ballycotton has launched a petition seeking Irish Water and Cork County Council to hold a public meeting to deal with concerns about a proposed wastewater treatment plant.

Athletics Ireland chairman of High Performance Ray Flynn described Robert Heffernan’s victory in the 50km race walk as the “best day of my athletics life” and that the main message of the Corkman’s performance was to “the athletes themselves.”
