Taoiseach Enda Kenny has urged banks to speed up restructuring mortgage arrears to give hope to thousands of families and businesses struggling with debt.

Finance Minister Michael Noonan’s home village was directly affected by the closure of its three nearest AIB bank branches, which shut yesterday along with 41 others across the country.

FINANCE Minister Michael Noonan is reported to be looking for “low hanging fruit”.
