A BABY abandoned in a toilet block on the Australian Gold Coast by his distraught young Irish mother has been reunited with her in Ireland.

The Irish Federation of Nursing Homes has said that the current crisis in A&E departments in the eastern region could be eased if recovering patients were moved to empty nursing home beds.

The Federation of Irish Nursing Homes has offered to provide beds to the Department of Health to help it overcome the shortage in public hospitals.
