A man wanted for the attempted murder of a garda in New Orleans has a long arrest record, most recently spending time in prison for beating up a boy and his mother.

Police have released the name of a suspect in the shooting of garda Brian Hanrahan who was gunned down and robbed as he enjoyed a holiday in New Orleans.
