Iranian authorities will this week crack down on any public protest against the year-long house arrest of opposition leaders Mirhossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karoubi, an official said yesterday.

THE armoured car of one of Iran’s opposition leaders, Mehdi Karroubi, was hit by gunfire in the northern town of Qazvin, his party’s website reported yesterday, but only the windows were damaged.

TWO prominent defeated Iranian presidential candidates said they would maintain their campaign against President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s re-election, which has sparked Iran’s worst unrest since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
