Before Star Wars, there was Ryan’s Daughter. And, next week, for the first time, the Dingle International Film Festival opens with a digital production of the David Lean epic, which put the west Kerry peninsula on the map.

Renowned American actress Laura Dern is the latest movie personality to become enraptured by the rugged grandeur of the Dingle Peninsula and the earthy charm of its people.

AT first glance, it seems a mad idea: take famous scenes from the world’s most iconic movies and ‘Dingle-ise’ them by recreating the magic moments in the heartland of west Kerry where the sea and scenery always have a starring role.

The late Hollywood legend Gregory Peck is to be honoured at the Dingle Film Festival in September.
