IN response to Martin Southgate’s letter on tobacco smuggling (September 27), here’s a far more effective idea: make Ireland a tobacco tourist destination.

TACKLING cigarette smuggling was one topic high on the agenda of the international conference recently held at the Shanghai World Expo 2010 in China.

Cigarette smuggling cost the Government €556m in lost taxes and duty last year, it was revealed today.
