Irish sprint sensation Jason Smyth was pleased with his efforts in Barcelona tonight, despite failing to qualify for the 100m final at the European Athletics Championships.

Derry sprinter Jason Smyth made history on the Olympic Stadium track in Barcelona tonight by becoming the first Paralympian to compete at a European Athletics Championships.

CLAIRE BRADY (Celbridge) will be back in action on Irish soil on Sunday when she lines up for the 100m at the Woodies DIY AAI Games, which return to Castleisland after a 10-year absence. The Games will include senior relays as well as Paralympic events and a Masters 3km team event.

IT WAS to be a day of celebration for Kerry’s Gillian O’Sullivan (Farranfore/Maine Valley) at the opening session of the indoor championships of Ireland.
