GARDAÍ in Limerick are closely monitoring a major regrouping of the leadership of the notorious McCarthy Dundon gang.

Four men today received sentences totalling 31-and-a-half years for offences including violent disorder and demanding money with menaces, in the largest tranche of Limerick gangland cases to come before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin.

A MAN has been acquitted of threatening to kill the father and sister of his former business partner after a week-long trial at the Special Criminal Court.

The Special Criminal Court has heard that a Limerick man feared his life would become “hell” if he made a statement to gardaí alleging a threat made against the life of his father and sister.
