The distraught mother of Gary Douch, brutally killed in a preventable tragedy in Mountjoy Prison, has slammed the Department of Justice for failing to pay the barrister who conducted the inquiry into her son’s death for almost four years.

The Commission of Investigation report into the death of Gary Douch made almost 30 pages of recommendations on prison system reform needed to prevent a repeat of the conditions which led to the tragedy.

JUSTICE MINISTER Michael McDowell yesterday told the mother of a prisoner murdered in Mountjoy prison she had the right to sue the State if her son’s constitutional rights had been breached.
