Pakistan state TV said the death toll from an alleged Nato helicopter attack on a Pakistani army checkpoint near the Afghan border has risen to 25 soldiers.

A government official said Pakistani security forces backed by helicopter gunships and jets have killed 54 alleged militants in a north west tribal region near the Afghan border.
