THE four-month-old boy who was swept from his mother’s arms by the Asian tsunami eight weeks ago and later nicknamed “Baby 81” was handed to his parents in a joyous courtroom reunion yesterday after an agonising custody battle of nearly eight weeks.

A MOTHER who launched a heart-rending court battle with nine other couples to get custody of a baby boy she said was swept from her arms almost eight weeks ago in the Asian tsunami will be reunited with him today after DNA tests proved he was hers.

The future of the tsunami survivor known as “Baby 81” is to be decided at a court hearing, with only one couple having lodged a formal custody petition out of nine original claimants.
