FISH industry leaders yesterday warned that hundreds of jobs could be lost in coastal areas if proposed massive EU cuts in fish quotas are implemented.

Scientists have called for a ban on cod fishing in the North Sea, Irish Sea and seas off the west coast of Scotland in 2005, saying stocks are well below minimum recommended levels.
