A “complete prohibition” on admitting seriously physically unwell residents to a private eating disorders treatment centre has been imposed by the Mental Health Commission.

An inspection of Ireland’s only dedicated residential centre for the treatment of eating disorders found it had no input from a medical specialist or medical facility.

CHILDREN as young as four are presenting with eating disorders, according to the head of a private clinic which specialises in recovery from anorexia, bulimia and emotional overeating.

The country’s first residential centre dedicated to treating patients suffering from life-threatening eating disorders opened its doors today.
