Around 65% of businesses in Cork county will get a rates rebate of 5% next year, with the local authority signalling it will not make any increases in commercial charges until at least 2021.

Businesses owe Cork County Council €94.4m in commercial rates over the past four years, with arrears steadily increasing.

Despite the economic downturn, Cork County Council took in €101.8m in rates last year, up more than €10m on what it collected in 2008.
