AS the exciting build-up to the All-Ireland football decider continues, Mayo received a great boost yesterday when Ballinrobe accounted for Tralee in the All-Ireland final of the Bulmers-sponsored Pierce Purcell Shield at Shannon.

LIMERICK Golf Club, represented by Juan Fitzgerald and Aisling Noone, held off stern opposition from 39 other clubs to win the Irish Examiner-sponsored Munster Mixed Foursomes Cup Final at Muskerry yesterday.

FOR sheer excitement and tension it would be hard to equal the dramatic finish to the Bulmer’s sponsored Munster Pierce Purcell shield final at Castletroy as Holycross farmer Matthew Maher rolled in a tricky four foot downhill putt on the first green to give Thurles a memorable victory.
