A TURKISH nationalist party leader, a veteran journalist and an academic have been arrested over an alleged plan to kill author Orhan Pamuk, the country’s first Nobel laureate, media reported yesterday.

AN APPEALS court ordered a new trial for four former Kurdish MPs convicted of links to outlawed Kurdish rebels, ruling the four did not receive a fair trial in a previous re-trial earlier this year.

TONY BLAIR, in a speech to a joint meeting of Congress in Washington (the Irish Examiner, July 18) said: “If you engage in the systematic and gross abuse of human rights in defiance of the UN charter, you cannot expect to enjoy the same privileges as those that conform to it.”
