Donald “Duck” Dunn, the bassist who helped create the gritty Memphis soul sound at Stax Records in the 1960s with the legendary group Booker T and the MGs and contributed to classics such as In the Midnight Hour, Hold On I’m Coming and Sitting On The Dock of The Bay, has died at 70.

The singer and drummer with influential US group The Band - who famously backed Bob Dylan in the 60s - passed away today, two days after his family announced he was losing a battle against throat cancer.
