IN his letter on EU workers’ rights (September 7), Martin Ferris says the solemn declaration on the issue contains “no new instruments to promote or protect workers’ rights” and it has “no meaningful legal status”.

THE Lisbon Treaty will strengthen workers’ rights and claims to the contrary are unfounded, an Oireachtas committee has said.

An umbrella group of more than 50 business and professional organisations said today said that the claim from anti-Lisbon group Coir that the treaty will result in the minimum wage being reduced to €1.84 per hour was without foundation and an insult to the intelligence of voters.
