RUSSIAN prosecutors said yesterday they had detained 10 suspects in the murder of reporter Anna Politkovskaya, but that the killing was masterminded from abroad by anti-Kremlin forces trying to discredit Russia.

Russian prosecutors have determined that a Chechen man who was the subject of a book by editor Paul Klebnikov ordered his murder.

Moscow police have arrested two Chechen men suspected of taking part in the murder of American journalist Paul Klebnikov, the city’s police chief said today.

The American editor of Forbes Magazine’s Russian edition and author of a book about tycoon Boris Berezovsky has been shot dead, the magazine said.
