USAIN BOLT created yet another piece of athletics history last night with a sensational victory in the 200 metres at the World Championships in Berlin.

DEIRDRE BYRNE and Linda Byrne, who were among Ireland’s top finishers at the European cross-country championships in Spain, returned to action in the muddy Belfast international at the Stormont Estate on Saturday where they finished third and fifth, respectively.

The United States dominated the final day of the athletics World Championships with three more victories matching the team’s haul of 14 gold medals two years ago in Helsinki.

DERVAL O’ROURKE rediscovered her winning form in the women’s 100m hurdles while David Gillick put the memories of his false start at The Mardyke behind him with an emphatic victory in the men’s 400m at the Honved International in Budapest last night.
