Two goals in the opening quarter were decisive as Nenagh Éire Óg ended the SHC challenge of Loughmore-Castleiney with a 2-17 to 0-18 win at Dolla yesterday.

There were no major shocks as the Tipperary SFC got underway, with holders Clonmel Commercials and leading rivals Loughmore-Castleiney among those recording first round victories.

They might have won an All-Ireland title after Sunday’s final replay win over Dublin, but for some of the Tipperary minor side the celebrations have had to be cut short.

The dream became a reality for Nenagh CBS at Semple Stadium, Thurles on Saturday afternoon when they won the All-Ireland Colleges SAHC title for the first time.
