Belfast man Kevin Hannaway, one of a group known as the ‘Hooded Men’ who are seeking revision of a judgment on their detention during the Troubles, has been granted bail by the Special Criminal Court pending his trial for allegedly assisting the IRA.

A group of men detained by British security forces during the Troubles want the Irish Government to step in and seek a review of a controversial 1978 judgment of the European Court of Human Rights which said their treatment was "inhuman and degrading" but not torture.

The Government is “very seriously” considering demands to reopen a landmark case against Britain over the alleged use of torture in the North during the Troubles.
