A Houston mother who calmly told an acquaintance that she had drowned her two children in a bathtub has been charged with their deaths and was being held by police.

Police in the US plan to charge a driver who lost control of his car after using his mobile phone, sending the vehicle into a rain-swollen ditch and killing five children, a spokesman said today.
