A sign of how one of Cork’s oldest communities has been welcoming the city’s newest arrivals was displayed to Education Minister Jan O’Sullivan yesterday.

A drugs taskforce met in Cork yesterday to discuss how best to tackle the city’s growing heroin crisis which saw a little boy jabbed by an addict’s needle he found discarded in his school yard.

A five-year-old schoolboy was jabbed by a heroin addict’s needle which was thrown into his school’s play area minutes before break time yesterday.

EXTRA support for disadvantaged schools is having a positive effect but needs to be ring-fenced from any future cutbacks, a school principal has claimed.
