The number of police officers on duty for the London Marathon has been boosted by 40% to provide reassurance in the wake of the atrocities in Boston, Scotland Yard said today.

Race organisers say the London Marathon will go ahead on Sunday despite two people being killed after three explosions brought a tragic end to its Boston equivalent today.

Two more people arrested by British police investigating disorder during the tuition fee demonstrations were in custody today.

An anti-Islam demonstration has resulted in 10 arrests, police in the UK said.
