A 30-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting and attempting to rape a man in his 60s blamed a garda for the case against him claiming the detective who arrested him was motivated by revenge because the accused once called him “a retard”.

A district court judge yesterday jailed a man for five months, saying he was a menace for people living in the Blackrock area of Cork and, for some reason, had seemed to think he was an important person in that part of the city suburb.

Two young men with high-visibility vests were caught carrying out an unauthorised collection for Victory Outreach from cars near a busy roundabout and yesterday a district court judge criticised the organisation for encouraging vulnerable people to engage in such illegal collections.
