A Rwandan rebel was today convicted of the murder of four tourists from Britain who were on a gorilla-watching trip nearly seven years ago.

A Ugandan judge today convicted a Rwandan rebel of killing eight tourists from Britain, the United States and New Zealand and a Ugandan tour guide who were on a gorilla-watching trip in 1999.

UGANDA’S main opposition leader was released on bail yesterday, and greeted some 12,000 supporters outside the court where he is on trial for charges he says were fabricated to keep him out of next month’s presidential election.

A judge today said he would rule on January 9 in the trial of a Rwandan rebel accused of killing four British tourists and their guide in a famed Ugandan gorilla reserve.
