THE father of a Co Leitrim teenager who needs a liver transplant said he has been reassured that there is no need to relocate his family to Dublin or London to ensure her place on the waiting list for a donor organ.

A SYSTEM set up since the Meadhbh McGivern case means the HSE’s National Ambulance Service (NAS) now gets updates twice a day on the availability of emergency aircraft and gets instant alerts if any of those aircraft become unavailable.

MEADHBH McGivern’s father has said that he was shocked at a report’s finding that no single body had overall responsibility for co-ordinating travel plans for patients requiring transplant surgery in Britain.

The McGivern family remain unconvinced there will not be a repeat of failures which forced their sick daughter to miss a vital life changing transplant, they have said.
