The Earth got so hot last month that scientists described temperatures as “astronomical”, “staggering”, and “strange”. They warned that the climate might have moved into a new, hotter neighbourhood.

Earth dialled the heat up in June, smashing warm temperature records for both the month and the first half of the year.

President Michael D Higgins has called on people to reject climate change deniers.
