Plans to bring mobile internet to remote areas of the UK for the first time have been announced by telecoms giant Vodafone.

Vodafone Ireland has appointed Cork-born Anne O’Leary to head its operations at a time when the big focus is on 4G rollout. Her task will be to ensure the biggest mobile operator in the country continues its march, says Kyran Fitzgerald

Vodafone has said it will roll out its fourth generation data services in Ireland by next summer.

An agreement between 3 and Vodafone to share their Irish networks is expected to save the two mobile phone operators €500m.
