A FORMER Labour MP was jailed for 18 months yesterday over the country’s lawmakers’ expenses scandal, becoming the first person to be imprisoned following the damaging affair which dented public trust in politics.

Shamed former Labour MP David Chaytor was starting an 18-month jail sentence tonight after admitting he fiddled his parliamentary expenses.

Jockey Darren Williams had 14 winners in the month before his arrest for throwing races, the Old Bailey was told today.

One of the jockeys accused of throwing races in a multi-million pound betting scam declared he had given his horse a “good ride” in one of the suspected races, the Old Bailey in London heard today.
