The parents of an Irish American US Navy Seal who was killed in action in Afghanistan a decade ago, and whose story inspired a Hollywood movie, have expressed delight at an Irish group’s decision to honour his memory.

A museum is to be built in Cork to recognise the achievements of Irish people who fought with foreign armies.

Ambitious plans to develop an interpretive centre and a memorial to honour Irish soldiers who have served in armies around the world over the last four centuries have been unveiled.
