THE Director of Public Prosecutions will decide whether a 20-year-old Kerry motorist will be retried on a charge of dangerous driving causing the death of a garda and a firefighter after a jury at Limerick Circuit Court yesterday could not reach a verdict.

A FIREFIGHTER broke down in court as he spoke about a horrific crash that resulted in the deaths of a garda and a firefighter.

AFTER a Kerry-registered Audi crashed into an accident scene killing a garda and a firefighter, one person emerged from the passenger side of the vehicle saying: “Sorry about that lads,” Limerick Circuit Court heard yesterday.

A FIREFIGHTER told how he was knocked to the ground by the body of a colleague which had been hurled violently through the air when a car smashed into emergency services personnel as they were attending a road traffic accident in Co Limerick.
