A husband thought he was doing the right thing by rushing his beloved wife back to Cork University Hospital’s (CUH) mental health unit after she overdosed. He thought the unit’s medical staff, who had been caring for her earlier, could organise the urgent care she so desperately needed.

There were hugs, kisses, the odd tear, and a determined message that the Government must ensure workers get their just entitlements as one of the longest sit-ins in industrial relations history ended.

The 32 workers engaged in a sit-in at the Vita Cortex plant in Cork received a boost over the weekend when former Republic of Ireland soccer international Paul McGrath visited the factory less than a day after they attended a fundraising concert held in their honour by musician Christy Moore.

ALL but deserted, the cavernous factory building that is Vita Cortex looks the very same as the day its workers downed tools.
