Troubled telecoms equipment maker Huawei has earmarked its operations in Cork for a slice of a planned €70m investment in Ireland over the next three years.

The company says the work will be supported by over 100 researchers and engineers across its offices in Cork, Athlone, and Dublin.

Huawei Technologies earnings have grown at their slowest pace in five years, as China’s biggest maker of telecommunications gear sank money into research and a marketing blitz to gain ground on Apple and Samsung in smartphones.
